After working as a firefighter in the Grand Canyon, Don's brother Vincent recently returned to the Bay Area to land a highly coveted position at the Santa Rosa Fire Department. To celebrate his graduation from the initiation training, they held a ceremony for the families. Don and I joined his parents and his sister's family to watch the new recruits put out a fire and then be recognized in front of their loved ones for their hard work those prior months.
There were a lot of great moments, but what warms my heart in memory was seeing Mama and Papa beaming with pride, watching the little nephews run around with firefighter hats on, and seeing Don dodge all that smoke to take epic photos of his little bro.
